Case Study Wood burning stove

Stovax wood burning stove

We have used Yeoman stoves in the past because they were from the West Country and had very sturdy back-boilers. Our home in the early 1980’s had central heating radiators that were heated by the back-boiler of a Yeoman wood burning stove which performed very well.

When we built our extension in 2005, we installed underfloor heating connected to a ground-source heat pump but we decided that we still wanted the ability to burn wood in order to heat the space quickly and to enjoy a real fire.  On this occasion we chose a Stovax Stockton stove.  The stove is shown in the photograph.  An Isokern pumice flue was built as part of the extension.  The flue and the stove have performed very well ever since.  We make sure that the internal surfaces of the stove and the flue are cleaned at least annually to prevent the build-up of combustion products.  We use a registered HETAS engineer, as required by our home’s insurance policy.

The manufacturer of the Stockton stove, Stovax Limited is based in Devon.  The company purchased Yeoman stoves in 2006.  The Yeoman and Stovax stoves that we have been using for the last forty years have performed very well, and we have never had any difficulty in obtaining spare parts.   We bought the stoves from Michael Faraday.  Faraday Heating had a shop on Honiton High Street in 1979.   Many years later, and with all the changes that have happened in the intervening period, it was good to see that Yeoman Stoves, Stovax and Faraday Heating were still trading successfully.
