Energy Storage

Energy storage is becoming more important as technological advances, particularly in lithium-ion battery technology, enable surplus electricity to be stored until it is needed.  At a national level, batteries can be used for Enhanced Frequency Response (EFR) when the National Grid needs to add power to the networks in less than a second after registering a frequency deviation.   
Large industrial and commercial businesses can use energy storage systems like the Powerstar Virtue system to achieve greater control over their electricity use.  
At a domestic level, battery storage is now being promoted to store surplus electricity that is generated by photovoltaic panels and other electricity generators at individual homes and businesses.  When the panels are not producing sufficient electricity to power the home, the deficit can be supplied by the battery storage.
